Instructional Assistant/Associate Professor or Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice in Theatre College Station, TX

The School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts (PVFA) at Texas A&M University invites applications for two (2) full-time Academic Professional Track (non-tenure) instructional assistant/associate professor or assistant/associate professor of the practice in theatre (depending on qualifications) positions with a nine- month academic appointment beginning Fall 2024. An “arts powerhouse,” the newly created PVFA brings music, theater, dance, performance studies, painting, graphic design, sculpture, visual computing, and game design faculty together. Aiming at fully capitalizing on this vibrant atmosphere, the school seeks an individual with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
• Acting and intimacy choreography
• Devising and intimacy choreography
• Theatrical design (any specialization)
• Stage Management and Production

PVFA is currently developing a unique theatre degree (Theatre BFA; expected start date of Fall 2024) with an emphasis on devising and developing new works. The successful candidates will have ample opportunity to contribute at an early stage to the theatre program’s development and evolution. PVFA is also interested in candidates who can contribute to our commitment to creating unexpected connections between the arts and applied science, such as those working at the intersection of theatre and virtual production, health sciences, virtual and mixed reality, AI/generative art, or similar areas. Candidates are expected to teach undergraduate courses in theatre, develop and implement new curricula pertaining to the PVFA School programs, particularly in theatre, contribute to co-curricular performance offerings, and contribute to academic service.

Qualifications
For appointments at Instructional Assistant or Instructional Associate Professor level, applicants must have a terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in theatre-related fields, or a combination of a master’s level degree in theatre- related fields and significant teaching experience in higher education. Instructional faculty members will primarily be evaluated on teaching activity, and research/service activity related to instruction and program/curricular development. There may be additional requirements depending on the specific faculty rank. For appointments at Assistant Professor of the Practice, Associate Professor of the Practice, and Professor of Practice level, applicants must have at the minimum, a master’s level degree appropriate for the field in which the faculty member will teach and significant teaching experience in higher education or have an extraordinary record of accomplishment in an applied setting. In addition to the above requirements, Professors of
Practice will have substantial professional credentials or experience. There may be additional requirements depending on the specific faculty rank.

For all candidates, preference will be given to individuals with university teaching experience, demonstrated experience devising theatrical performance, student mentorship, and participation in multidisciplinary research and/or creative activities.
