Call For Papers (CFP): Western Theatre Abroad (working title)

This edited volume aims to explore the junctures, tensions, and discoveries that occur when teaching western theatrical practice or directing English-language plays and musicals in countries that do not share Western theater practice histories or in which English is the non-dominant language.

We welcome submissions that approach this topic from a variety of perspectives, including practical, pedagogical, ethical, linguistic, cross-cultural, scholarly, and beyond. We also welcome interdisciplinary submissions that include other performance traditions, such as dance and opera. Chapters may focus on a specific production or class, or may reflect many years of practice and teaching. The book is intended for theater makers and scholars who work and/or teach transnationally or cross culturally and aims to augment existing scholarship on the topic.

If you are interested in contributing a chapter to this project, please send your CV, a short bio, and an abstract of between 300 and 500 words by July 20, 2018 to westerntheatreabroad@gmail.com or contact Dr. Yasmine Marie Jahanmir (American University of Kuwait) at yjahanmir@auk.edu.kw with any questions. Proposals will be selected based on their strengths and on their contributions to the diversity of the published volume. We will notify authors of acceptance by August 15, 2018. Future deadlines are dependent on the finalization of the book contract.
