"Theatres of Life"
New York University
Peggy Phelan: small conference "put together after 9-11 and
was seen as a response to the attacks in NY and also as a way
to continue the conversation begun in 'Theatres of Death'... "...both
of these conferences were organized through invitation, rather
than a general all for papers
. 2002 had something called
"the sound-off" in which any attendee could do any kind
of performance and/or presentation but it was limited to 3 minutes
and 'bring your own' tech."
The conference was attended by around 250 people from a diverse
range of countries. Richard Schechner was given a Lifetime Achievement
in Performance Studies Award
